Birdcage Walk (2014-2015)

This piece of music for violin, percussions and piano, depicts a promenade through the 'Birdcage Walk' in bristol.

Each movement is a stage in this promenade. The first and the sixth movements, which open and close the piece, represent the noise of the street. From the movement 2 to the movement 5, we are inside the park.

The title of the second movement makes a reference to the engraved sentence on one of the entry of the 'Birdcage Walk', and the name of the fifth movement refers to the benches near the other entry.

I chose the instrumental techniques and the timbres to illustrate and describe my feelings but also to tell a short story inside this piece of music.

Mouvements :

1 : Street

2 : The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life

3 : The squirrel

4 : The Ambush

5 : In memory of

6 : Reality

For this piece of music, I mainly wanted to work on the timbre of the oboe, on the tension and on the synchronisation between the 2 oboes. This is the result of my researches.

From birth to death... (2014)

This piece is inspired by the life of a star.

Initially, we observe a cloud of gas and dust. Following the densification of a part of the cloud, the gas collapses on itself. He flattens as a disk with a central protostar. The densification in the center is such that atoms do not repel anymore but they merge: hydrogen, helium, carbon, and... Star starts photo-evaporating the disk by light. When it has nothing more to burn, it sucks her sister (the stars bear often by two). Once completed, the star collapses. The electrons having acquired a strong energy are captured by protons, creating thus an imbalance and leading to the explosion of the star: the supernova. But the life of a star is an eternal cycle, it leaves behind a cloud of gas and dust.

Violin, clarinet and harp are going to endeavor to evoke freely the life of a star, using some unconventional modes essentially in the first and the fifth and final part of the piece.

The violin plays an impact in col legno which gives the starting point of the photo-evaporation of the disk light, this will be represented by a progressive densification of each instrumental part and rhythmic superimposition.

A much more peaceful third part illustrates the aspiration of the second star with descendant motifs before the final explosion (Part Four).

Worlds in a music box (2014)

If your music box did not contain a single world...

If your music box did not contain a single world... Open it and let go through the many facets it contains.

Clarinet and bass are going to alternate long held, rhythmic passages and not really academic modes animating the steps of the dancer in this journey. However, as all music boxes, mechanism, after its peak, slows down, declines, tries to continue with smaller interventions and stops. You just have to close the lid until the next time.

NOTHING FOUND!

Breaths, vibrations, impacts, cracks, etc.. The aim of this research of timbre is to lead the listener into a parallel world where madness, insanity, wishful thinking and wisdom entangle.

To suggest these phenomena, instrumentalists play in a not really academic way, that is to say, who do not follow the established rules of classical training and agreed to the instrument.

Sois tranquille, cela viendra... (2011)

According to Philippe Jacottet's poem "Sois tranquille, cela viendra !"

The poem of Philippe Jacottet, Sois tranquille, cela viendra!, which has been written in 1953, was the basis of this musical creation.

Instruments (flute, oboe and percussion), accompanying the declamation of the text, try to express the inevitably destructive nature of time against which we can not fight through a melodic theme that recurs repeatedly.

Musicians:

Quentin Burgunter-Delamare,
Afro-cuban percussions

Marjolaine Carry, Flute
Florence Coroenne, Voice
Juliette Michalet, Oboe

Sois tranquille, cela viendra!

Sois tranquille, cela viendra !

Music based on François Coppée's poem "Étoiles filantes"

"Étoiles filantes" puts to music the poem of the same name written in 1877 by François Coppée (1842 - 1908).

It is an attempt to transcribe, in music this time, the feelings of the poet and to give it more depth through the timbres of the voice, the vibraphone and the electronics, mixing live uses and pre-recorded sounds and through the software supercollider.

The poem relates the story of a person who falls victim to a nonreciprocal love. She hopes that her wishes will be realized if she makes a wish as she sees a shooting star (myth). However, it is now winter and there are no more shooting stars in the sky, symbolizing that the person she loves will never love her in return.
